Abstract
An optical lens casting gasket, wafer, and system and method that provides for more efficient formation of optical lenses employing optically functional wafers.
Claims20
An automated process of casting a lens, comprising:
- providing a robot having robotic arms;
- providing a gasket having a groove comprising an upper lip and a lower lip;
- inserting a wafer from a wafer inventory into the groove of the gasket by the robotic arms;
- locking the wafer inside the groove by the robotic arms;
- and
- introducing a lens material into molds of the gasket and curing the lens material to form a cast lens.

A method of loading a wafer inside a gasket by a robot, comprising:
- providing a gasket having a groove comprising an upper lip and a lower lip;
- loading a wafer into the groove of the gasket by arms of the robot;
- and
- locking the wafer inside the groove by the arms of the robot.
1 more element
An automatic process of locking a wafer inside a gasket, comprising:
- providing a robot having robotic arms;
- providing a gasket having a groove comprising an upper lip having an interrupted protrusion and a lower lip having a uniform protrusion;
- picking the wafer first from an wafer inventory by the robotic arms and positioning the wafer inside the groove by supporting the wafer on the uniform protrusion of the lower lip and positioning corners of the wafer beneath cutouts of the interrupted protrusion of the upper lip;
- and
- locking the wafer inside the groove by rotating the wafer at a center by the robotic arms and matching a shape of the wafer with a complimentary shape of the interrupted protrusion of the upper lip.
