Abstract
Provided herein are compositions comprising an annexin polypeptide or subunit thereof and methods using said composition.
Claims20
A composition consisting essentially of an annexin polypeptide or subunit thereof and an antibiotic.
A method to breakdown bacterial filaments in bacteria comprising contacting or expressing an annexin or subunit thereof in said bacteria so that the bacterial filaments are shorter than those of a bacterium that are not contacted with or expressing said annexin or subunit thereof.
A method to increase phagocytosis of bacteria that have been exposed to an external stress comprising contacting or expressing an annexin or subunit thereof in said bacteria thereby rendering the bacteria more susceptible to phagocytosis as compared to bacteria that have been exposed to an external stress and are not contacted with or expressing said annexin or subunit thereof.
A method to increase the efficacy of an antibiotic comprising contacting or expressing an annexin polypeptide or subunit thereof in bacteria wherein said bacteria are also exposed to said antibiotic, wherein the efficacy of the antibiotic is increased as compared to bacteria not expressing or contacted with said annexin.
A method to inhibit or reduce the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria comprising contacting or expressing an annexin polypeptide or a subunit thereof in said bacteria wherein said bacteria are also exposed to said antibiotic, wherein the bacteria are inhibited as compared to bacteria not expressing or contacted with said annexin.
