Abstract
Novel organoselenium selective ligands are presented and designed to determine metal ions in a sample. These ligands are used as complexing agents in a dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction procedure of copper and zinc ions. The procedure has a shortened extraction time, minimal organic solvent types, and lower amounts of solvents, as well as easy operation and high enrichment efficiency.

A process for making an organoselenium compound, comprising reacting a diselenide compound of the formula:
- with R—Br in the presence of ethanol, NaBH4, and N2 to obtain a compound of the formula:
- which compound in turn is reacted with, in the presence of toluene, a compound of the formula:
- wherein the organoselenium compound has the formula III:
- or a salt, stereoisomer, or solvate thereof, and wherein
- each X is the same and is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or C1-C6 alkyl;
- and
- R is C1-C6 alkyl, phenyl, and C1-C6 alkylphenyl.
