Abstract
A hitch ball assembly for a trailer hitch. The hitch ball assembly includes a clam-shaped body having a plurality of hinged segments operable between an open position and a closed position. Each of the plurality of hinged segments includes a concave inner surface that collectively form a ball shaped-cavity configured to enclose a smaller-diameter hitch ball. Each of the hinged segments further includes an outer surface that collectively form a larger-diameter hitch ball configured to engage a trailer tongue when the hinged segments are operated to the closed position.
Claims26
A hitch ball assembly for a trailer hitch, comprising:
- a body having a plurality of hinged segments operable between an open position and a closed position;
- and
- each of the plurality of hinged segments having an outer surface that collectively form a first hitch ball configured to engage a trailer tongue when the hinged segments are operated to the closed position.
A hitch ball assembly comprising:
- a body having an outer surface that forms a first hitch ball;
- and
- wherein the body is configured to removably attach to a second hitch ball.
A method of increasing a diameter of a first hitch ball to accommodate a larger trailer tongue, comprising:
- installing a second hitch ball onto the first hitch ball;
- wherein the second hitch ball has a diameter greater than a diameter of the first hitch ball.
