Abstract
A system and method for demolding an additively manufactured component includes generating a shockwave in at least one of the additively manufactured component and the substrate upon which the additively manufactured component is built and applying a tensile stress at an interface between the additively manufactured component and the substrate to separate at least a portion of the additively manufactured component from the substrate along the interface in response to the tensile stress.

A method for demolding an additively manufactured component, the method comprising steps of:
- generating a shockwave in at least one of the additively manufactured component and a substrate upon which the additively manufactured component is built;
- and
- applying a tensile stress at an interface between the additively manufactured component and the substrate to separate at least a portion of the additively manufactured component from the substrate along the interface in response to the tensile stress.
A method for making an additively manufactured component, the method comprising steps of:
- building the additively manufactured component layer-by-layer on a substrate;
- generating a shockwave in at least one of the additively manufactured component and the substrate;
- and
- applying a tensile stress at an interface between the additively manufactured component and the substrate to separate at least a portion of the additively manufactured component from the substrate along the interface in response to the tensile stress.
A system for demolding, the system comprising:
- a substrate upon which an additively manufactured component is built;
- and
- a shockwave generator configured to generate a shockwave in at least one of the additively manufactured component and the substrate that results in a tensile stress at an interface between the additively manufactured component and the substrate,
- wherein at least a portion of the additively manufactured component separates from the substrate along the interface in response to the tensile stress.
