Abstract
In one representative embodiment, a gripping and pushing device for a medical instrument comprises an elongated main body defining a lumen. The elongated main body comprises one or more deflectable portions that can be pressed radially inwardly toward a shaft of the medical instrument extending through the lumen. One or more elastomeric gripping layers can be secured to the inner surface of a respective deflectable portion at axially spaced apart attachment locations. The one or more gripping layers are axially deformable relative to the one or more deflectable portions between the attachment locations when manual pressure is applied to the one or more deflectable portions to press the one or more gripping layers against the shaft and move the shaft longitudinally into a patient's body.
Claims20
A gripping and pushing device for a medical instrument comprising:
- an elongated body defining a lumen, the elongated body comprising at least one member that can be depressed radially inwardly towards a longitudinal axis extending through the lumen, the at least one member having an inner surface;
- and
- at least one gripping layer secured to the inner surface of the at least one member, wherein the at least one gripping layer is deformable along the longitudinal axis;
- wherein the at least one member moves radially inwardly toward the longitudinal axis when manual pressure is applied to the at least one member.
A gripping and pushing device for a medical instrument comprising:
- an elongated body defining a lumen, the elongated body comprising at least one member that can be depressed radially inwardly towards a longitudinal axis extending through the lumen, the at least one member having an inner surface;
- and
- at least one gripping layer secured to the inner surface of the at least one member;
- wherein the at least one member moves radially inward toward the longitudinal axis when manual pressure is applied to the at least one member and wherein the elongated body is split longitudinally along its length to permit placement of a shaft of the medical instrument within the lumen laterally from one side of the gripping and pushing device.
A gripping and pushing device for a medical instrument comprising:
- an elongated main body defining a lumen, the elongated body comprising at least one member that can be depressed radially inwardly toward a shaft of the medical instrument extending through the lumen, the at least one member having an inner surface;
- at least one elastomeric gripping layer securely attached to the inner surface of the at least one member at a plurality of discrete, axially spaced apart attachment locations;
- wherein the at least one elastomer gripping layer is axially deformable along an axis parallel to a length of the lumen relative to the plurality of discrete, axially spaced apart attachment locations when manual pressure is applied to the at least one member, thereby pressing the at least one elastomeric gripping layer against the shaft and facilitating longitudinal movement of the shaft into a patient's body.
