Abstract
The present disclosure is directed to calibrating position detection for a tool. The tool can use a sensor to detect a first value of a parameter. The tool can use a motor to extend the working member of the tool towards a working surface. The tool can include a base. The tool can detect, with the working member in contact with the working service, a second value of the parameter. The tool can determine a z-axis position of the working member relative to the working surface.

1-24. (canceled)
A marking material using location markers, the marking material comprising:
- a sequence of two or more location markers arranged in only one row along a length of an adhesive tape, wherein the tape includes no other rows of location markers, wherein each location marker includes ten optically readable features arranged in two rows of a grid, each location marker has the same shape as all the other location makers, the grid includes more than ten candidate feature positions, of which ten are occupied by the ten features, the ten features include four corner features disposed in each corner of the grid, and an arrangement of at least some of the ten features of a respective location marker distinguishes the respective location marker from the other location markers in the sequence.
A marking material for mapping a surface of a target material, the marking material comprising:
- a plurality of location markers, wherein the plurality of location markers comprises a sequence of two or more location markers arranged in only one row along a length of an adhesive tape, and the tape includes no other rows of location markers, each location marker includes ten optically readable features arranged in two rows of a grid, the grid includes more than ten candidate feature positions, of which ten are occupied by the ten features, the ten features include four corner features disposed in four corners of the grid, an arrangement of at least some of the ten features of a respective location marker distinguishes the respective location marker from the other location markers in the sequence, and each location marker, when applied to the target material, corresponds to a location on the target material.
A marking material for mapping a surface of a target material, the marking material comprising:
- a plurality of location markers, wherein:
- each location marker includes a plurality of optically readable features, an arrangement of at least some of the plurality of features of a respective location marker distinguishes the respective location marker from the other location markers of the plurality of location markers, and each location marker, when applied to the target material, corresponds to a location on the target material.
A system for mapping a target material, the system comprising:
- one or more memories storing instructions;
- and
- one or more processors, operatively coupled to the one or more memories, for executing the instructions to cause the system to:
- determine one or more locations of one or more respective location markers of a plurality of location markers based upon an arrangement of a predetermined number of optically readable features disposed on each of the one or more location markers, wherein the plurality of location markers is disposed on a marking material, which is itself disposed on the target material, each location marker includes two rows of a given number of candidate feature positions arranged in a grid, on each location marker a predetermined number of the candidate feature positions is occupied by the optically readable features, the predetermined number of features is less than the given number of candidate feature positions, the predetermined number of features include four corner features disposed in each corner of the grid, and the system determines a respective location of each of the one or more one location markers based upon the arrangement of the predetermined number of features disposed on each of the one or more location markers.
