Abstract
A laser system including a seed laser, a laser beam splitting and combining subsystem receiving an output from the seed laser and providing a combined laser output having noise and a noise cancellation subsystem operative to provide a noise cancellation phase correction output based on taking into consideration the noise at intermittent times, the laser beam splitting and combining subsystem varying a phase of the combined laser output during time interstices between the intermittent times.

A laser system comprising:
- a coherent beam combining (CBC) laser operative to provide a laser output having at least thermal noise, said CBC laser comprising at least one optical element positioned along a path of said laser output;
- at least one detector located downstream of said at least one optical element, said at least one detector being operative to receive at least a portion of said laser output and to detect said at least thermal noise thereof;
- and
- a phase control system operative to provide:
- a first phase variation to vary a phase of said laser output, for controlling at least one of a shape and a position of said laser output, and
- a second phase variation to cancel out at least said thermal noise as detected by said detector, said second phase variation being applied during said controlling and without significant disruption thereof.
A method for correcting noise in a laser output, comprising:
- providing, by a coherent beam combining (CBC) laser, a laser output having at least thermal noise, said CBC laser comprising at least one optical element positioned along a path of said laser output;
- receiving, by at least one detector located downstream of said at least one optical element, at least a portion of said laser output, said at least one detector detecting said at least thermal noise;
- varying a first phase of said laser output, thereby controlling at least one of a shape and a position of said laser output, and
- varying a second phase of said laser output to cancel out at least said thermal noise as detected by said detector, said varying of said second phase being performed during said controlling and without significant disruption thereof.
A laser welding system comprising:
- a coherent beam combining (CBC) laser operative to provide a combined laser output, for welding of a substrate;
- and
- a phase control system operative to provide phase variation of said combined laser output, said phase variation modifying at least one of a focal distance, a position and a shape of said combined laser output, during said welding.
A laser system according to claim 1196, wherein said phase variation for modifying at least one of a focal distance, a position and a shape of said combined laser output is applied at a greater rate than said noise cancellation phase variation.
A method for laser welding, comprising:
- providing, by a coherent beam combining (CBC) laser, a combined laser output, for welding of a substrate;
- and
- varying a phase of said combined laser output, said varying of said phase modifying at least one of a focal distance, a position and a shape of said combined laser output, during said welding.
A laser welding system comprising:
- a coherent beam combining (CBC) laser operative to provide a combined laser output for welding of a substrate;
- and
- a phase control system operative to provide phase variation of said combined laser output, said phase variation adjusting a shape of said combined laser output between at least a first shape and a second shape, during said welding.
A method for laser welding, comprising:
- providing, by a coherent beam combining (CBC) laser, a combined laser output for welding of a substrate;
- and
- varying a phase of said combined laser output, thereby adjusting a shape of said combined laser output between at least a first shape and a second shape, during said welding.
