Abstract
A battery module including a plurality of battery cells each including an electrode tab and at least one bus bar comprising a plate connected to each of the electrode tabs via a weld bead, wherein the plate and the weld bead comprises a first metal at a particular concentration range and wherein the weld bead has particular dimensions.
Claims20
A bus bar configured to electrically connect the battery cells via respective electrode tabs, the bus bar comprising a plate of a first metal, the bus bar having holes for retention of the respective electrode tabs;
- wherein a particular electrode tab is coupled to the plate via a weld bead satisfying Equations 1 and 2 below:

A method of making a battery module comprising:
- providing a plurality of battery cells, each including an electrode tab;
- providing at least one bus bar comprising a plate comprising plurality of holes;
- wherein the plate comprises a first metal;
- inserting an electrode tab of each of the plurality of battery cells into each of the plurality of holes in the plate such that the electrode tab protrudes through the plate to create a protruding portion of the electrode tab;
- and
- irradiating the plate and electrode tab under conditions effective to bond the electrode tab to the plate, thereby creating a weld bead,
- wherein the weld bead satisfies Equations 1 and 2 below:
