Abstract
Methods and systems for managing pods hosted by virtual machines are disclosed. To manage the pods, the activity of virtual machines hosting the pods may be monitored to identify when the virtual machines may be decommissioned. When an identification is made, actions may be performed to manage the pods through the decommissioning. The actions may include gracefully terminating operation of the pod, preventing new pods from being deployed to the virtual machines, and attempting to abort the decommissioning.
Claims20
A method for providing computer implemented services using pods hosted by virtual machines, the method comprising:
- making an identification of a decommissioning of a virtual machine of the virtual machines, the virtual machine being hosted by a data processing system;
- based on the identification:
- identifying a type of the decommissioning;
- identifying a pod of the pods that is hosted by the virtual machine;
- and
- performing an action set based on the type of the decommissioning to manage operation of the pod through the decommissioning of the virtual machine.
A non-transitory machine-readable medium having instructions stored therein, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations for providing implemented services using pods hosted by virtual machines, the operations comprising:
- making an identification of a decommissioning of a virtual machine of the virtual machines, the virtual machine being hosted by a data processing system;
- based on the identification:
- identifying a type of the decommissioning;
- identifying a pod of the pods that is hosted by the virtual machine;
- and
- performing an action set based on the type of the decommissioning to manage operation of the pod through the decommissioning of the virtual machine.
A data processing system, comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a memory coupled to the processor to store instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations for providing computer implemented services using pods of containers, the operations comprising:
- making an identification of a decommissioning of a virtual machine of the virtual machines, the virtual machine being hosted by a host data processing system;
- based on the identification:
- identifying a type of the decommissioning;
- identifying a pod of the pods that is hosted by the virtual machine;
- and
- performing an action set based on the type of the decommissioning to manage operation of the pod through the decommissioning of the virtual machine.
