Abstract
A request for directions for traveling to a destination is received via a user interface of a user device, where a mode of transport is not selected via the user interface. A current geographic context of the user device is determined, which includes determining proximity of the starting point and/or the destination to public transport, and suggested mode of transport for travelling to the destination is determined based on the current geographic context. Directions for travelling to the destination using the suggested mode of transport are obtained and provided via the user interface of the user device.
Claims19
A method for providing directions in a geographic application, the method comprising:
- receiving, by one or more processors via a user interface of a user device, a request for directions for traveling from a starting point to a destination, including not receiving a selection of a mode of transport;
- determining, by the one or more processors, a current geographic context of the user device using a positioning unit at the user device, wherein determining the current geographic context includes determining proximity of the starting point and/or the destination to public transport;
- determining, by the one or more processors, a suggested mode of transport for travelling to the destination, based on the current geographic context;
- obtaining, by the one or more processors, directions for travelling to the destination using the suggested mode of transport;
- and
- providing, by the one or more processors, the directions via the user interface of the user device.
A computing device comprising:
- one or more processors;
- a non-transitory computer-readable memory storing thereon instructions that, when executed on the one or more processors, cause the computing device to:
- receive, from a user device, a request for directions for traveling to a destination, without receiving a selection of a mode of transport,
- determine a current geographic context of the user device, including determine proximity of the starting point and/or the destination to public transport,
- determine a suggested mode of transport for travelling to the destination, based on the current geographic context,
- obtain directions for travelling to the destination using the suggested mode of transport, and
- provide the directions via the user interface of the user device.
