Abstract
An atmospheric CO2 capture system includes a compartment housing a solid CO2 sorbent, an exchange fluid including a chemical component with selectivity towards CO2, and an electrochemical cell in fluid communication with the compartment, the system having a cycle including a first state of sorbing CO2 from incoming air onto the solid CO2 sorbent until a saturation point is reached; a second state of regenerating the sorbent by flooding the compartment with the exchange fluid to detach CO2 from the saturated sorbent and bind the detached CO2 to the chemical component; and a third state of regenerating the chemical component by detaching CO2 from the chemical component in the electrochemical cell and releasing the CO2 from the system.
Claims20
A carbon dioxide (CO2) direct air capture (DAC) system comprising:
- a centrifuge having a cylindrical body housing a solid CO2 sorbent;
- an injector including an exchange fluid path into the centrifuge;
- and
- an exchange fluid including a chemical component with a preferential affinity towards CO2,
- the system having a cycle including
- a first state of sorbing CO2 from incoming air onto the solid CO2 sorbent;
- and
- a second state of regenerating the solid CO2 sorbent by injecting the exchange fluid into the cylindrical body from the injector, spinning the cylindrical body to draw the exchange fluid through a volume of the solid CO2 sorbent while detaching CO2 from the solid CO2 sorbent and binding the detached CO2 to the chemical component.
A carbon dioxide (CO2) direct air capture (DAC) system comprising:
- a plurality of centrifuges including a first centrifuge and a second centrifuge interconnected with a mechanical connection, the first and second centrifuge each housing a solid CO2 sorbent and structured to be operated in a staggered manner to remove an exchange fluid from the system after the exchange fluid binds CO2.
A carbon dioxide (CO2) direct air capture (DAC) system comprising:
- a first group of centrifuges, each having a body housing a solid CO2 sorbent;
- a second group of centrifuges, each having a body housing a solid CO2 sorbent;
- a mechanical connection linking the first group to the second group;
- an injector structured to provide an exchange fluid into each centrifuge;
- and
- the exchange fluid including a chemical component with a preferential affinity towards CO2,
- the system having a cycle of CO2 sorption to the solid CO2 sorbent and CO2 desorption from the exchange fluid in the first group of centrifuges followed by the cycle in the second group of centrifuges.
