Abstract
Disclosed is buoyant wave energy capture device, adapted to float adjacent to an upper surface of a body of water over which waves pass, and adapted to capture a portion of the radiated waves created by its own rising and falling in response to incident and/or passing environmental waves. A power take off mechanism combined with the disclosed wave energy capture device may be tuned to a specific wave frequency, and thereby optimally extract energy from a motion of a single frequency, even the wave energy capture device may be excited and/or energized by waves of any of a relatively broad range of frequencies, thereby increasing the power-generation and cost efficiencies of such devices relative to wave energy conversion devices of the prior art.
Claims33
A buoyant wave energy converter system, comprising:
- a central wave energy converter comprising an upper bulbous portion coupled to a tubular portion depending therefrom along a vertical axis;
- and
- a wave reflector coupled to the upper bulbous portion, wherein the wave reflector only partially laterally surrounds the central wave energy converter around the longitudinal axis.
A buoyant wave energy converter system, comprising:
- a central wave energy converter having a vertical axis and comprising a buoyant pressurized component coupled to a hollow submergible component along the vertical axis, the buoyant pressurized component having a reservoir, the hollow submergible component having a constriction, and the hollow submergible component having an end with an aperture within the buoyant pressurized component;
- and
- a wave reflector coupled to the buoyant pressurized component of the central wave energy converter,
- wherein the wave reflector only partially laterally surrounds the central wave energy converter.
A buoyant wave energy converter system, comprising:
- a central wave energy converter comprising an upper positively buoyant bulbous portion coupled to a lower negatively buoyant portion;
- and
- a wave reflector coupled to the upper positively buoyant bulbous portion of the central wave energy converter, wherein the wave reflector only partially laterally surrounds the central wave energy converter.
