Abstract
A loading frame includes a rectangular u-shaped frame with an opening at one side, forks extendable and retractable between the closed side and the open side of the U-shaped frame, loading frame wheels on one arm of the U-shaped frame, and a truck interface on the other arm of the U-shaped frame. The loading frame wheels and truck interface support travel of the frame in a direction other than the direction of travel of the forks between the open and closed sides of the U-shaped frame.

A payload handler vehicle, comprising:
- a payload truck configured to travel in a travel direction;
- and
- a loading frame configured to travel in the travel direction and having a load engagement portion configured to extend and retract in a direction transverse to the travel direction to engage and support a load.
A payload handling method, comprising:
- providing a payload truck having a loading frame;
- the payload truck traveling in a travel direction to a pick-up location having a load oriented in parallel with the loading frame;
- a load engagement portion of the loading frame extending in a direction transverse to the travel direction to engage the load;
- and
- the load engagement portion retracting to carry the load.
