An alkyl phenol suitable for forming a sulfurized alkyl phenate detergent composition, the alkyl phenol comprising the reaction product of a hydroxyaromatic compound and a polyalphaolefin oligomer derived from C6 to C14 dimers, trimers, tetramers, pentamers, copolymers, copolymer varients, or combinations thereof.
