Abstract
Disclosed are novel remedial capping methods comprising: (a) providing an organic adsorption ingredient and an organic polymer delivery ingredient; (b) providing a non-organic silica carrier ingredient; (c) blending the organic adsorption ingredient, the organic polymer delivery ingredient, and the non-organic silica carrier ingredient to form a capping composition layer mixture; (d) delivering the capping composition layer mixture to a delivery means; and (e) distributing the capping composition layer mixture throughout a distribution pool and forming a capping composition layer in an area in need of remediation.
Claims28
An improved remedial capping method comprising the steps of:
- a. providing an organic adsorption ingredient and an organic polymer delivery ingredient;
- b. providing a non-organic silica carrier ingredient;
- c. blending the organic adsorption ingredient, the organic polymer delivery ingredient, and the non-organic silica carrier ingredient to form a capping composition layer mixture;
- d. delivering the capping composition layer mixture to a delivery means;
- and
- e. distributing the capping composition layer mixture throughout a distribution pool and forming a capping composition layer in an area in need of remediation.
An improved remedial capping method comprising the steps of:
- a. identifying a subaqueous sediment area for distributing a layer of capping material;
- b. providing one or more capping ingredients and a non-organic silica carrier ingredient to a capping layer delivery system, the capping layer delivery system comprising one or more barges, a blending and delivery apparatus, and a delivery means, the blending and delivery apparatus and the delivery means integrated on the one or more barges;
- c. positioning the one or more barges proximal to the subaqueous sediment area;
- d. blending, via blending and delivery apparatus, the one or more capping ingredients and the non-organic silica carrier ingredient to form a capping composition layer mixture;
- and
- e. distributing the capping composition layer mixture throughout a distribution pool and forming a capping composition layer in an area in need of remediation.
An improved remedial capping method comprising the steps of:
- a. providing a dry activated carbon (“AC”) ingredient;
- b. providing a dewatered semi-slurry sand ingredient;
- c. providing a dry organic polymer delivery ingredient, the dry organic polymer delivery ingredient is selected from the group consisting of guar gum and analogues, xanthan gums and analogues, zen gums and analogues, and polydopamine (PDA);
- d. blending, by an integrated blending and delivery apparatus, the dry AC ingredient, the dewatered semi-slurry sand ingredient, and the dry organic polymer delivery ingredient and forming a capping composition layer mixture, the step of blending performed on-site in a vessel at or near an area in need of remediation;
- e. delivering the capping composition layer mixture to a delivery means;
- and
- f. distributing the capping composition layer mixture throughout a distribution pool and forming a capping composition layer in the area in need of remediation,
- wherein the dry AC ingredient comprises about 0.03% to 20% of a total dry weight of the capping composition layer, the dewatered semi-slurry sand ingredient comprises about 75% to 99.5% of the total dry weight of the capping composition layer, and the dry organic polymer delivery ingredient comprises about 0.03% to 1% of the total dry weight of the capping composition layer.
An improved remedial capping method comprising the steps of:
- a. providing a dry powdered activated carbon (“PAC”) adsorption ingredient, the dry PAC adsorption ingredient comprises about 0.03% to 20% of a total dry weight of a capping composition layer , and the dry PAC adsorption ingredient comprises a plurality of dry PAC particles, each having a particle size in the range of about 43-74 microns;
- b. providing a dewatered semi-slurry sand ingredient, the dewatered semi-slurry sand ingredient comprises about 75% to 99.5% of the total dry weight of the capping composition layer and the dewatered semi-slurry sand ingredient comprises a plurality of dewatered semi-slurry sand particles, each having a particle size in the range of about 150-250 microns;
- c. providing an organic polymer delivery ingredient picked from either an unmodified guar gum ingredient or a modified guar gum ingredient, the organic polymer delivery ingredient comprises about 0.03% to 1% of the total dry weight of the capping composition layer and the organic polymer delivery ingredient comprises a plurality of organic polymer delivery ingredient particles, each having a particle size in the range of about 43-74 microns;
- d. blending, by an integrated blending and delivery apparatus, the dry PAC adsorption ingredient, the dewatered semi-slurry sand ingredient, the organic polymer delivery ingredient, and forming a capping composition layer mixture, the step of blending performed on-site in a vessel at or near an area in need of remediation;
- e. delivering the capping composition layer mixture to a delivery means;
- and
- f. distributing the capping composition layer mixture throughout a distribution pool and forming the capping composition layer in the area in need of remediation.
