Treatment material

A method for treating a first disease,

• comprising the steps of subjecting blood from a patient to a dialysis treatment and, before or after said dialysis treatment, contacting said blood with a treatment material,
• whereby a symptom of the first disease is alleviated or treated by reducing the concentration of phosphorus in said blood, wherein
• said treatment material comprises a water-insoluble carrier having bound thereto a plurality of adsorbing components, each of said adsorbing components comprising a linker and at least one calciprotein-adsorbing group selected from a phosphate group, a phosphonate group, a phosphinate group, an amino group, a carboxy group and a thiol group, and
• the calciprotein-adsorbing group being bound to the water-insoluble carrier through the linker.

A method for reducing the concentration of phosphorus in the blood of a patient, said method comprising the steps of:

• (a) subjecting said blood of a patient to a dialysis treatment and, before or after said dialysis treatment,
• (b) contacting said blood with a treatment material, wherein
• said treatment material comprises a water-insoluble carrier having bound thereto a plurality of adsorbing components, each of said adsorbing components comprising a linker and at least one calciprotein-adsorbing group selected from a phosphate group, a phosphonate group, a phosphinate group, an amino group, a carboxy group and a thiol group, and
• the calciprotein-adsorbing group being bound to the water-insoluble carrier through said linker.
