Abstract
A system and method for a transportation device that utilizes an alternative biomechanics framework for the human lower body that may be used in any transportation vehicle in conjunction or as an alternative to wheels whereby the bones, muscles, and connective tissue of the lower body function together to produce the mechanics of a single wheel rather than the conjoined pendulums of the leading inverted pendulum model of biomechanics.
Claims19
A transportation system with two foot spiral devices, each with a single segment of a three-dimensional log spiral, connecting a tread hub with a wheel hub and having dimensions and mechanical properties equivalent to those of a curled human foot, wherein movements of the two foot spiral devices wind a torsion spring within a first foot spiral device of the two foot spiral devices and cause a band connecting the first foot spiral device to a first hip component to contract, thus applying tension on the first hip component and causing a second hip component connected to a second foot spiral device of the two foot spiral devices to swing forward in an arc around a vertical midline.
A transportation system with two foot spiral devices, each with a single segment of a three-dimensional log spiral connecting a tread hub with a wheel hub and having dimensions and mechanical properties equivalent to those of a curled human foot, wherein when one of the two foot spiral devices is clenching, inverting, and rotating, tread contact is made by inverted toenail components of the single component which apply force to a ground lateral to a direction of motion, wherein movements of the two foot spiral devices wind a torsion spring within a first foot spiral device of the two foot spiral devices and cause a band connecting the first foot spiral device to a first hip component to contract thus applying tension on the first hip component and causing a second hip component connected to a second foot spiral device of the two foot spiral devices to swing forward in an arc around a vertical midline.
A method for a transportation system, the method comprising
- making contact with a ground by a first foot spiral device while a second foot spiral device swings around to complete a first half of a rotation;
- making contact with the ground by the second foot spiral device while the first foot spiral device swings around to complete a second half of the rotation;
- contacting tread by inverted toenails components which apply force to the ground lateral to the direction of motion.
