Ultrasonic surgical handpiece with torsional transducer

A surgical handpiece, comprising:

• a torsional transducer;
• a surgical attachment having a first end detachably connected to the torsional transducer and a second end defining a working plane for engagement with biological tissue;
• and
• wherein the torsional transducer is configured to create a standing wave, the standing wave creates a torsional motion of the second end of the surgical attachment at the working plane.

A surgical handpiece, comprising:

• a torsional transducer assembly along a central axis of the surgical handpiece,
• a surgical attachment connected to the torsional transducer, the surgical attachment defining a working plane for engagement with biological tissue;
• and
• wherein the torsional transducer assembly creates a torsional motion of the surgical attachment about the central axis at the working plane.

A surgical handpiece, comprising:

• a torsional transducer;
• a surgical attachment having a first end detachably connected to the torsional transducer and a second end having an ultrasonic tip for engagement with biological tissue;
• and
• wherein the torsional transducer is configured to create a standing wave, the standing wave creates a torsional motion of the surgical attachment at the ultrasonic tip.
