Abstract
The present inventions refers a novel trifluoromethyl thianthrenium compound referred to as TT-CF3+X−, a process for preparing the same and the use thereof for trifluoromethylating organic compounds.

A thianthrene derivative of the Formula (I):
- wherein R1 to R8 may be the same or different and are each selected from hydrogen, halogen, a C1 to Ce alkyl group, which is optionally substituted by at least one halogen, or a —O—C1 to C6 alkyl group, and wherein X− is an anion, selected from F−, Cl−, triflate, BF4−, SbF6−, PF6−, ClO4−, 0.5 SO42−, or NO3−.
