Abstract
This invention relates to a coolant for cooling a device for use in dentistry, the coolant comprising a Newtonian fluid having a viscosity greater than water. The invention also relates to a method of cooling a device for use in dentistry utilising the coolant, the coolant for use in a method of cooling a device for use in dentistry and an apparatus and kit comprising the coolant.
Claims35
A coolant for cooling a device for use in dentistry, the coolant comprising a Newtonian fluid having a viscosity greater than water.
The coolant according to any preceding claim, wherein the Newtonian fluid is glycerine.
The coolant according to any preceding claim, further comprising water.
The coolant according to any preceding claim, further comprising a thickening agent, preferably selected from gums (e.g. gum arabic, gum tragacanth, guar gum, locust bean gum), pectin, agar-agar, alginic acid, alginate salts, carrageenan, gelatin, hydroxyethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), polyacrylic acid (PAA) and mixtures thereof.
The coolant according to any preceding claim, wherein the device comprises a high-speed handpiece or an ultrasonic scaler handpiece.
The coolant according to any preceding claim, comprising glycerine, an alginate salt, and water.
The coolant according to any preceding claim, consisting of glycerine, sodium alginate, water and optionally an additive which is preferably trisodium phosphate.
The coolant according to any preceding claim, comprising:
- from 20 wt % to 90 wt % glycerine;
- from 0.1 wt % to 5 wt % thickening agent, preferably selected from an alginate salt and polyacrylic acid;
- from 5 wt % to 70 wt % water;
- and
- optionally, an additive, which is preferably trisodium phosphate.
A method of cooling a device for use in dentistry, the method comprising delivering a coolant to a working end of the device, the coolant comprising a Newtonian fluid having a viscosity greater than water.
A coolant for use in a method of cooling a device for use in dentistry, the method comprising delivering the coolant to a working end of the device, the coolant comprising a Newtonian fluid having a viscosity greater than water.
