## Abstract

A child-resistant container including a container body, a lid, and at least one resilient tab is provided. The lid is pivotable about an axis through a hinge joining the lid to the container body to open and close the container. The resilient tab has a proximal portion fixed to the lid, a distal portion projecting from the lid, and at least one abutment on the distal portion. The abutment on the distal portion of the tab is normally biased into engagement with an abutment on the container body when the lid is in its closed position. The distal portion of the tab is displaceable against the bias to disengage the abutment of the tab from the abutment of the container. Displacement of the tab releases the lid so that it can be pivoted about the hinge to open the container.

## Claims

### Claim at position 1

1-20. (canceled)

### Claim 21

A child-resistant container comprising:
a container body having a base and a sidewall extending upwardly from the base, the sidewall terminating in a top end, the base and sidewall forming an interior of the container body, a feature of the container body protruding radially outwardly from the sidewall proximate the top end;
a lid mounted in pivotable relation to the container body, the lid being pivotable between a closed position in which a distal portion of the lid contacts the feature of the container body, and an open position in which the distal portion of the lid does not engage the feature of the container; and
a mechanism for restricting movement of the lid from the closed position, the mechanism comprising:
a pair of downward-facing abutments; and
a pair of opposing upward-facing abutments,
wherein each of the upward-facing abutments is spaced radially outwardly from the sidewall of the container body when the lid is in the closed position,
wherein each downward-facing abutment is in an engagement position with a corresponding one of the pair of upward-facing abutments when the lid is in the closed position to keep the lid closed, and
wherein the lid is movable from the closed position to the open position by applying a first motion and an opposing second motion to the mechanism, each motion acting on one of the respective pair of upward-facing abutments and downward-facing abutments until the upward-facing abutments are disengaged from the downward-facing abutments, thus allowing the lid to move from the closed position to the open position.

### Claim 22 (depends on 21)

The child-resistant container of claim 21, wherein the distal portion of the lid nests in the feature when the lid is in the closed position.

### Claim 23 (depends on 21)

The child-resistant container of claim 21, wherein a sealing plug extends from an interior surface of the lid.

### Claim 24 (depends on 23)

The child-resistant container of claim 23, wherein the container body includes a mouth in the top end providing access to the interior, the sealing plug being sized and configured to provide an interference fit with the mouth to form a moisture-tight seal when the lid is in the closed position.

### Claim 25 (depends on 23)

The child-resistant container of claim 23, wherein the sealing plug is circular.

### Claim 26 (depends on 21)

The child-resistant container of claim 21, wherein the first motion and the second motion occur simultaneously.

### Claim 27 (depends on 21)

The child-resistant container of claim 21, wherein the container has a moisture ingress rate of less than 1500 micrograms per day, at 80% relative humidity and 72° F. (21° C.).

### Claim 28

A child-resistant container comprising:
a container body having a base and a sidewall extending upward from the base, the sidewall terminating in a top end, a mouth in the top end providing access to an interior of the container body, a ring of the container body protruding radially outwardly from the sidewall proximate the top end;
a lid mounted in pivotable relation to the container body by a hinge, the lid being pivotable between a seated position in which the lid covers the mouth and a distal portion of the lid contacts the ring of the container body, and a raised position in which the mouth is at least partly exposed and the distal portion of the lid does not engage the ring of the container, a sealing plug extending from an interior surface of the lid; and
a mechanism for restricting movement of the lid from the seated position, the mechanism comprising:
a pair of downward-facing abutments extending from the ring of the container body; and
opposing upward-facing abutments extending from the lid, each upward-facing abutment being aligned with and contacting one of the downward-facing abutments when the lid is in the seated position,
wherein the distal portion of the lid nests in the ring when the lid is in the seated position, and
wherein the sealing plug provides an interference fit with the mouth to form a moisture-tight seal when the lid is in the seated position.

### Claim 29 (depends on 28)

The child-resistant container of claim 28, wherein each of the upward-facing abutments is spaced radially outwardly from the sidewall of the container body when the lid is in the seated position.

### Claim 30 (depends on 29)

The child-resistant container of claim 29, wherein each downward-facing abutment is in an engagement position with a corresponding one of the pair of upward-facing abutments when the lid is in the seated position to keep the lid closed.

### Claim 31 (depends on 30)

The child-resistant container of claim 30, wherein the lid is openable by a first motion and an opposing second motion, each motion acting on one of the respective pair of upward-facing abutments and downward-facing abutments until the upward-facing abutments are disengaged from the downward-facing abutments, thus allowing the distal portion of the lid to be pivoted about the hinge to move the lid to the raised position

### Claim 32 (depends on 28)

The child-resistant container of claim 28, wherein the sealing plug is circular.

### Claim 33 (depends on 28)

The child-resistant container of claim 28, wherein the first motion and the second motion occur simultaneously.

### Claim 34 (depends on 28)

The child-resistant container of claim 28, wherein the container has a moisture ingress rate of less than 1500 micrograms per day, at 80% relative humidity and 72° F. (21° C.).

### Claim 35

A method of opening a child-resistant container, the method comprising:
simultaneously applying a first motion and an opposing second motion to a mechanism of a child-resistant container until each of two upward-facing abutments are disengaged from a respective one of two downward-facing abutments, thus allowing a lid to be pivoted from a seated position to a raised position.

### Claim 36 (depends on 35)

The method of claim 35, wherein the lid nests in a feature that extends radially outwardly from a sidewall of a container body of the child-resistant container when the lid is in the seated position.

### Claim 39 (depends on 35)

The method of claim 35, further comprising:
pivoting the lid from the seated position to the raised position with a second hand after a first hand simultaneously applies the first and second motions to the mechanism.

### Claim 40 (depends on 35)

The method of claim 35, wherein each of the upward-facing abutments is spaced radially outwardly from a sidewall of a container body when the lid is in the seated position.
