## Abstract

The disclosure relates to compositions and methods for removing color from keratin fibers such as hair. The compositions comprise (a) at least one reducing agent chosen from glutaric acid, glyoxylic acid, thiolactic acid, thioglycolic acid, glycolic acid, or combinations of two or more thereof, (b) optionally, at least one amine compound, and (c) at least one solvent.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A hair-color removing composition comprising:
(a) at least one reducing agent chosen from glutaric acid, glyoxylic acid, thiolactic acid, thioglycolic acid, glycolic acid, or combinations of two or more thereof;
(b) optionally, at least one amine compound; and
(c) at least one solvent.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The hair-color removing composition of claim 1, wherein the total amount of reducing agents (a) ranges from about 1% to about 20% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The hair-color removing composition of claim 1, wherein the reducing agent (a) comprises α-ketoglutaric acid, and optionally further comprises at least one additional reducing agent chosen from glutaric acid compounds other than α-ketoglutaric acid, glyoxylic acid, thiolactic acid, thioglycolic acid, and/or glycolic acid.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The hair-color removing composition of claim 1, wherein the total amount of reducing agents (a) ranges from about 3% to about 12% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The hair-color removing composition of claim 1, wherein the total amount of amine compounds (b) ranges from about 0.1% to about 20% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

### Claim 6 (depends on 3)

The hair-color removing composition of claim 3, comprising monoethanolamine in an amount ranging from about 1% to about 10% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The hair-color removing composition of claim 1, further comprising at least one component chosen from thickening agents, fatty compounds, clay compounds, carboxylic acids, amino acids, anionic surfactants, non-ionic surfactants, amphoteric/zwitterionic surfactants, or combinations thereof.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The hair-color removing composition of claim 1, wherein the composition is free of reducing agents other than glutaric acid, glyoxylic acid, thiolactic acid, thioglycolic acid, and/or glycolic acid.

### Claim 9

A hair-color removing composition comprising:
a) at least one reducing agent chosen from glutaric acid, glyoxylic acid, thiolactic acid, thioglycolic acid, glycolic acid, or combinations of two or more thereof;
b) monoethanolamine; and
c) water,
wherein the pH of the composition ranges from about 1 to about 6.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The hair-color removing composition of claim 9, wherein the total amount of reducing agents (a) ranges from about 1% to about 20% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The hair-color removing composition of claim 9, wherein the reducing agent (a) comprises α-ketoglutaric acid, and optionally further comprises at least one additional reducing agent chosen from glutaric acid compounds other than α-ketoglutaric acid, glyoxylic acid, thiolactic acid, thioglycolic acid, and/or glycolic acid.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The hair-color removing composition of claim 9, wherein the total amount of monoethanolamine ranges from about 1% to about 15% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The hair-color removing composition of claim 9, further comprising at least one component chosen from thickening agents, fatty compounds, clay compounds, carboxylic acids, amino acids, anionic surfactants, non-ionic surfactants, amphoteric/zwitterionic surfactants, or combinations thereof.
