## Abstract

A refrigerated merchandiser including a door pivotably coupled to the case frame via a hinge assembly and enclosing at least a portion of the product display area. The door has a door frame and a glass panel coupled to the door frame. The refrigerated merchandiser also includes a door hold-open mechanism positioned between the case frame and the door. The door hold-open mechanism has a housing movable with the door as the door pivots between a closed position and an open position, and cam apparatus with a lever engageable with the housing and a cam coupled to the lever to apply a force to the lever such that the lever is engageable with the housing to hold the door in an open position. The cam is adjustable to increase or decrease the force applied to the lever.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A door hold-open assembly for a merchandiser including a case defining a product display area and having a case frame, and a door pivotably coupled to the case frame, the assembly comprising:
a housing movable with the door as the door pivots between a closed position and an open position; and
a door hold-open mechanism configured to be positioned between the case frame and the door, the door hold-open mechanism including cam apparatus having a lever engageable with the housing and a cam coupled to the lever to apply a force to the lever such that the lever is engageable with the housing to hold the door in an open position,
wherein the cam is adjustable to increase or decrease the force applied to the lever.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the cam apparatus further includes a bias element positioned between the cam and the lever.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The assembly of claim 2, wherein the cam is adjustable to change the force applied to the lever by the bias element.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the cam is rotatably adjustable to increase or decrease a distance between a surface of the cam and the lever, and wherein an increase in the distance reduces the force applied to the lever and a decrease in the distance increases the force applied to the lever.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The assembly of claim 4, wherein the cam is defined by a polygonal-shaped body.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the housing includes a lock member disposed on an outer surface of the housing, and wherein the lever is engageable with the lock member to hold the door in the open position.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The assembly of claim 6, wherein the door is movable toward the closed position to disengage the lever from the lock member.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the housing includes two lock members disposed on an outer surface of the housing, and wherein the lever is selectively engageable with each of the lock members to hold the door in different open positions.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the door hold-open mechanism includes a base plate attachable to the case frame, wherein the housing is coupled to the base plate, and wherein the cam apparatus is disposed in a cavity within the base plate adjacent the housing.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The assembly of claim 9, further comprising a cover plate attached to the base plate to enclose the cam apparatus.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the housing includes an elongated arm coupled to the door.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The assembly of claim 11, wherein the elongated arm and the housing are formed as a monolithic element.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the lever is pivotably coupled to the housing and movable into and out of engagement with one or more lock members on the housing to hold the door in the open position.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the cam apparatus further includes a bias element positioned between the cam and the lever. wherein the cam has a polygonal-shaped body with a plurality of surfaces, and wherein rotation of the cam changes which surface of the plurality of surfaces is engageable with the bias element and changes a force induced on the lever by the cam and the bias element.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein, as a distance between a selected cam surface of the plurality of surfaces and the lever decreases, more force is applied on the lever by the spring, and wherein, as the distance between the selected cam surface and the lever increases, less force is applied on the lever by the spring.

### Claim 16 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the cam is defined by a polygonal-shaped body with a plurality of cam surfaces such that rotation of the cam is configured to change a cam surface of the plurality of cam surfaces that is coupled to the lever.

### Claim 17 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the door hold-open mechanism includes a base plate attachable to the case frame and having an opening, and wherein the lever has a protrusion configured to extend through the opening to engage a stop disposed on an outer surface of the housing to hold the door in the open position.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The assembly of claim 17, wherein the stop is a first stop and the housing further includes a second stop disposed on the outer surface, and wherein the protrusion is configured to engage the first stop or the second stop to selectively hold the door in different open positions.

### Claim 19 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the cam apparatus further includes a spring coupled to the lever and an interface member positioned between the spring and the cam.

### Claim 20 (depends on 1)

The assembly of claim 1, wherein the door hold-open mechanism includes a base plate attachable to the case frame, and wherein the cam is disposed in a pocket of the base plate and rotatable about an axis within the pocket via a keyed tool engagable with the cam.
