Abstract
Various approaches are provided for enabling Edge Dual Deployment (EDD). EDD includes Multi-access edge computing (MEC) Dual Deployments (MDD) initialization performed as a preliminary step before the actual registration, as a mechanism to allow the two platforms (EES and MEC platform) to communicate directly. MDD establishment is a dual registration mechanism of the edge application in the EDD environment. MDD update and closing are analogous registration update and de-registration processes, with both sub-cases.
Claims21
A device comprising:
- processing circuitry;
- and
- a memory including instructions embodied thereon, wherein the instructions, which when executed by the processing circuitry, configure the processing circuitry to:
- receive, from an edge application of a user equipment (UE), a registration request to register the edge application to a Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) platform via an MEC App instance and an Edge Enabler Server (EES) via an edge application server (EAS) of a 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) system, the registration request indicating one of the MEC platform or EES as a primary platform and another of the MEC platform or EES as a secondary platform;
- and
- transmit, to the primary platform, a registration request to register the edge application at the primary platform, the primary platform configured to redirect the registration request to the secondary platform to register the edge application at the secondary platform.
A device comprising:
- processing circuitry;
- and
- a memory including instructions embodied thereon, wherein the instructions, which when executed by the processing circuitry, configure the processing circuitry to:
- receive, from an edge application of a user equipment (UE), a registration request to register the edge application to a Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) platform via an MEC App instance and an Edge Enabler Server (EES) of a 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) system via an edge application server (EAS);
- and
- in response to the registration request:
- transmit, to one of the MEC platform or EES, a primary registration request to register the edge application with the one of the MEC platform or EES, and
- transmit, to another of the MEC platform or EES, a secondary registration request to register the edge application with the other of the MEC platform or EES,
- wherein the secondary registration request has one of:
- an Application Descriptor (AppD) comprising a registration type attribute that indicates MEC as a secondary registration, or
- an EAS profile comprising a secondary system information element (IE) that indicates an identifier of a secondary deployment system.
19-60. (canceled)
An apparatus comprising:
- means for receiving, from an edge application of a user equipment (UE), a registration request to register the edge application to a Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) platform via an MEC App instance and an Edge Enabler Server (EES) via an edge application server (EAS) of a 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) system, the registration request indicating one of the MEC platform or EES as a primary platform and another of the MEC platform or EES as a secondary platform;
- and
- means for transmitting, to the primary platform, a registration request to register the edge application at the primary platform, the primary platform configured to redirect the registration request to the secondary platform to register the edge application at the secondary platform.
