Abstract
A multi-level inverter having one or more banks, each bank containing a plurality of low voltage MOSFET transistors. A processor configured to switch the plurality of low voltage MOSFET transistors in each bank to switch at multiple times during each cycle.
Claims20
An apparatus comprising:
- first and second direct-current (DC) terminals
- a DC link capacitor connected between the first and the second DC terminals;
- circuitry comprising:
- an inductor connected between the first DC terminal and a first node;
- a first switch bank connected between the first node and a second node;
- a second switch bank connected between the first node and a third node;
- and
- first and second ripple capacitors, wherein the first ripple capacitor is connected between the second node and the second DC terminal, and the second ripple capacitor is connected between the third node and the second DC terminal;
- wherein the circuitry is configured to transfer, between the DC link capacitor and the first and the second ripple capacitors, charge that compensates for low frequency voltage ripple on a DC voltage across the first and the second DC terminals.

A method comprising:
- applying a direct current (DC) voltage across first and second DC terminals of a circuit, wherein the circuit comprises:
- a DC link capacitor connected between the first and the second DC terminals,
- an inductor connected between the first DC terminal and a first node,
- a first switch bank connected between the first node and a second node,
- a second switch bank connected between the first node and a third node, and
- first and second ripple capacitors, wherein the first ripple capacitor is connected between the second node and the second DC terminal, and the second ripple capacitor is connected between the third node and the second DC terminal;
- and
- controlling the circuit to transfer, between the DC link capacitor and the first and second ripple capacitors, charge that compensates for low frequency voltage ripple on the DC voltage.
