Abstract
The present invention provides rapid screening methods, as well as related compositions and kits, for the detection of thyroid associated orbitopathy (TAO) by way of assessing the expression status of insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) on the surface of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) taken from an individual being examined for possible TAO.
Claims18
A method for assessing insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) expression status in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in a patient, comprising the steps of:
- (i) detecting in a blood sample taken from the patient PBMCs that express IGF-1R;
- and
- (ii) determining percentage of PBMCs that express IGF-1R among all PBMCs.
A kit for assessing insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) expression status in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), comprising:
- (a) an agent to detect PBMCs that express IGF-1R;
- and
- (b) a standard control to indicate percentage of PBMCs that express IGF-1R among all PBMCs in healthy subjects.
