Abstract
An engine includes a single cylinder, at least one sensor, a fuel injector, and a controller. The at least one sensor is configured to generate sensor data for an engine condition. The controller is configured to perform a comparison of the engine condition to a threshold and in response to the comparison, generate a first command to deactivate the fuel injector after a first predetermined time period and a second command to reactivate the fuel injector after a second predetermined time period.
Claims20
An engine comprising:
- a cylinder;
- at least one sensor configured to generate sensor data for an engine condition;
- a fuel injector configured to deliver fuel to the cylinder;
- and
- a controller configured to perform a comparison of the engine condition to a threshold value and in response to the comparison, generate a first command to deactivate the fuel injector during at least a first intake stroke of the engine and a second command to reactivate the fuel injector during at least a second intake stroke of the engine, wherein the first command and the second command are alternatingly generated to maintain operation of the engine.
2 more elements
A method for operation of an engine, the method comprising:
- receive sensor data;
- compare the sensor data to a threshold value;
- deactivate a fuel injector of the engine for a deactivation duration corresponding to at least one intake stroke in response to the comparison;
- and
- activate the fuel injector in response to the deactivation duration elapsing;
- wherein the deactivation duration is selected to maintain the combustion cycle of the engine.
3 more elements
A method comprising:
- a) starting a timer;
- b) comparing the timer to a hot restart time period, wherein the hot restart time period is selected to maintain the combustion cycle of an engine;
- c) receiving sensor data;
- d) comparing the sensor data to a threshold value;
- e) deactivating a fuel injector in response to the timer exceeding the hot restart time period and in response to sensor data exceeding the threshold value;
- f) waiting for at least one intake stroke;
- g) activating the fuel injector;
- and
- h) repeating steps c) through f) until the sensor data is less than the threshold value.
