Recombinant bacteria capable of producing and secreting therapeutically active EGF, pharmaceutical compositions thereof, and methods of treating disorders are disclosed.

A recombinant bacterium comprising a polynucleotide sequence encoding a EGF polypeptide fused to a secretion tag, wherein the polynucleotide sequence is operably linked to an FNR-inducible promoter or temperature-sensitive promoter.
