Audio Generation in a Media Playback System

A playback device comprising:

• a network interface;
• at least one processor;
• and
• at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the playback device is configured to:
• receive, via one or more sensors, first sensor data;
• transmit, via the network interface after receiving the first sensor data, a first signal corresponding to the first sensor data;
• receive, via the network interface after transmitting the first signal, a second signal corresponding to one or more playback commands;
• output, via a plurality of audio transducers, first audio according to the one or more playback commands, wherein output of the first audio produces a first set of radiation patterns;
• receive, via the one or more sensors, second sensor data representing one or more characteristics of an environment;
• determine, based on the second sensor data, transfer functions that when applied to audio output by the plurality of audio transducers, produce, via superposition, a second set of radiation patterns having a balanced directional effect within the environment;
• and
• output, based on the one or more transfer functions, second audio modified by the determined transfer functions via at least one of the plurality of audio transducers according to the second radiation pattern.

At least one non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program instructions that are executable by at least one processor such that a media playback system is configured to:

• receive, via one or more sensors, first sensor data;
• transmit, via a network interface after receiving the first sensor data, a first signal corresponding to the first sensor data;
• receive, via the network interface after transmitting the first signal, a second signal corresponding to one or more playback commands;
• output, via a plurality of audio transducers, first audio according to the one or more playback commands, wherein output of the first audio produces a first set of radiation patterns;
• receive, via the one or more sensors, second sensor data representing one or more characteristics of an environment;
• determine, based on the second sensor data, transfer functions that when applied to audio output by the plurality of audio transducers, produce, via superposition, a second set of radiation patterns having a balanced directional effect within the environment;
• and
• output, based on the one or more transfer functions, second audio modified by the determined transfer functions via at least one of the plurality of audio transducers according to the second radiation pattern.
