Abstract
The present application relates to a method for desensitization of allergic patients. More specifically it relates to an epicutaneous desensitization method, applicable to any type of allergens and of patients. The method of the invention is essentially non-invasive and does not require the use of adjuvants. Further, it may be easily applied and monitored by the actual patient.

A method for epicutaneous desensitization of a subject allergic to egg, the method comprising:
- a) epicutaneously exposing the subject to an egg allergen and generating an immune reaction in the subject by applying a dose of the egg allergen onto an intact region of skin of the subject;
- and
- b) repeatedly applying the egg allergen to an intact region of the skin of the subject, at a dose, frequency or for an application time adapted to sustain the immune reaction, the exposure and sustained reaction leading to desensitization of the subject;
- wherein the egg allergen is applied by a cutaneous occlusive device configured to ensure contact between the allergen and the region of skin, and wherein said dose of egg allergen is comprised between 0.1 and 1,000 μg/cm2 of a surface area of the device.
A method for epicutaneous desensitization of a subject allergic to egg, the method comprising:
- a) epicutaneously exposing the subject to an egg allergen and generating an immune reaction in the subject by applying a dose of the egg allergen onto an intact region of skin of the subject, wherein:
- i) the egg allergen is applied by a first cutaneous occlusive device,
- ii) the first cutaneous occlusive device is configured to ensure contact between the allergen and the region of skin, and
- iii) said dose of egg allergen is comprised between 0.1 and 1,000 μg/cm2 of a surface area of the first cutaneous occlusive device;
- b) removing the first cutaneous occlusive device at an amount of time after application of the first cutaneous occlusive device, and
- c) applying the same or different dose of the egg allergen onto the same or different intact region of skin of the subject to sustain the immune reaction in the subject, wherein:
- i) the same or different dose of the egg allergen is applied by an additional cutaneous occlusive device;
- ii) the additional cutaneous occlusive device is configured to ensure contact between the allergen and the region of skin, and
- iii) said same or different dose of egg allergen is comprised between 0.1 and 1,000 μg/cm2 of a surface area of the additional cutaneous occlusive device;
- d) optionally repeating steps b) and c) at least one additional time;
- and
- e) optionally, wherein the amount of time is about 6 to 72 hours.
A method for epicutaneous desensitization of a subject allergic to egg, the method comprising repeatedly and sequentially applying and removing cutaneous occlusive devices to an intact region of the skin of the subject to generate and sustain an immune reaction in the subject, the generated and sustained immune reaction leading to desensitization of the subject, wherein:
- i) the cutaneous occlusive devices comprise a dose of egg allergen;
- ii) the cutaneous occlusive devices are configured to ensure contact between the dose of egg allergen and the region of skin;
- and iii) the dose of egg allergen is comprised of between 0.1 and 1,000 μg/cm2 of a surface area of the cutaneous occlusive devices.
