Disclosed herein are thiazolidinediones for the treatment of kidney diseases, glomerular diseases, and nephrotic syndrome.

A method of protecting kidney cells from damage and improving cell viability, comprising a step of contacting the cell with an effective amount of a thiazolidinedione selected from one or more of rosiglitazone, lobeglitazone, ciglitazone, darglitazone, englitazone, netoglitazone, rivoglitazone, troglitazone, and balaglitazone.

A method of treating nephrotic syndrome in a mammal comprising administering an effective amount of a thiazolidinedione selected from one or more of rosiglitazone, lobeglitazone, ciglitazone, darglitazone, englitazone, netoglitazone, rivoglitazone, troglitazone, and balaglitazone to the mammal.
A method of treating glomerular disease in a mammal comprising administering an effective amount of a thiazolidinedione selected from one or more of rosiglitazone, lobeglitazone, ciglitazone, darglitazone, englitazone, netoglitazone, rivoglitazone, troglitazone, and balaglitazone to the mammal.
