Abstract
The disclosure relates to compositions and methods for treating keratinous substrates, such as skin and/or hair, where the compositions comprise (a) at least one alkaline carbonate, (b) at least one polyol, (c) water and/or at least one non-aqueous solvent, and (d) optionally at least one pH adjuster. The at least one carbonate and the at least one polyol are present in the composition in the form of an associated network.
Claims20
A composition for treating keratinous substrates, comprising:
- (a) at least one alkaline carbonate;
- (b) at least one polyol;
- (c) water and/or at least one non-aqueous solvent;
- and
- (d) optionally at least one pH adjuster,
- wherein the at least one carbonate and the at least one polyol are present in the composition in the form of an associated network.
A method of treating keratinous substrates, the method comprising applying to the keratinous substrates a composition comprising:
- (a) at least one alkaline carbonate;
- (b) at least one polyol;
- (c) water and/or at least one non-aqueous solvent;
- and
- (d) optionally at least one pH adjuster,
- wherein the at least one carbonate and the at least one polyol are present in the composition in the form of an associated network.
A simplex solution comprising:
- (a) at least one alkaline carbonate;
- (b) at least one polyol;
- and
- (c) optionally water,
- wherein the at least one carbonate and the at least one polyol are present in the simplex solution in the form of an associated network.
A process for preparing a composition for treating keratinous substrates, the process comprising:
- (i) preparing an associated network of alkaline carbonate(s) and polyol(s) by combining at least one alkaline carbonate, at least one polyol, and optionally water in a molar ratio of alkaline carbonate(s):polyol(s) that ranges from less than 1:3 to about 1:50 to form a simplex solution;
- (ii) optionally heating the simplex solution;
- (iii) adding at least one solvent chosen from water and/or non-aqueous solvents to the simplex solution to form the composition;
- and
- (iv) optionally adding at least one pH adjuster to the composition.
