Abstract
A laparoscopic tool has a semicircular mid-portion with a center point and coinciding remote center of the robotic arm, to which the tool is mounted on a common axis located between straight proximal and straight distal sections. The straight proximal of the laparoscopic tool is rotatably mounted on a fixed side mount on surgical robotic arm. The robotic arm is disengaged from the surgical robot to allow manual location of the robotic arm to position the semicircular mid-portion through a percutaneous port and the center point of semi-circular mid-portion and coinciding remote center of the robotic arm, to which the tool is mounted at a target virtual insertion point on the patient's body. Visual aids are provided to assist in the positioning of the center point.

A laparoscopic surgery tool, comprising:
- a hollow shaft including a proximal section, a distal section having an end effector, and a semi-circular mid-portion having a center point on a common axis with the proximal section and the distal section;
- a flexible cable assembly configured to pass through a central passage of the hollow shaft from the proximal section to the distal section and to control the end effector;
- and
- a driver on the proximal section of the hollow shaft and configured to manipulate the flexible cable assembly.
A laparoscopic surgery system, comprising:
- a first laparoscopic tool including a first hollow shaft including a first proximal section, a first distal section having a first end effector, a first semi-circular mid-portion having a center point on a common axis with the first proximal section and the first distal section, a first rotatable mount configured to be removably attached to the first proximal section and a surgical robot, and a first robotic arm interface configured to couple to the surgical robot and to control the first end effector;
- and
- a second laparoscopic tool including a second hollow shaft including a second proximal section, a second distal section having a second end effector, a second semi-circular mid-portion having a center point on a common axis with the second proximal section and the second distal section, a second rotatable mount configured to be removably attached to the second proximal section and the surgical robot, and a second robotic arm interface configured to couple to the surgical robot and to control the second end effector.
