Providing survivable calling and conferencing

A method for providing a conference, comprising:

• receiving, by a conference server, a request to establish the conference between a plurality of user devices, wherein the plurality of user devices comprises a first user device and a second user device, and wherein the first user device is associated with a first call parameter and a first codec preference and the second user device is associated with a second call parameter and a second codec preference;
• selecting, by the conference server and subsequent to receiving the request, a base codec for the conference, based on the first call parameter, the first codec preference, the second call parameter, and the second codec preference, wherein the base codec is configured to encode and decode communications transmitted within the conference;
• and
• establishing the conference based on the base codec.

A system for providing a conference, comprising:

• at least one processor configured to:
• receive a request to establish the conference between a plurality of user devices, wherein the plurality of user devices comprises a first user device and a second user device, and wherein the first user device is associated with a first call parameter and a first codec preference and the second user device is associated with a second call parameter and a second codec preference;
• select, subsequent to receiving the request, a base codec for the conference, based on the first call parameter, the first codec preference, the second call parameter, and the second codec preference, wherein the base codec is configured to encode and decode communications transmitted within the conference;
• and
• establish the conference based on the base codec.

A non-transitory computer-readable device having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by at least one computing device, cause the at least one computing device to perform operations comprising:

• receiving a request to establish the conference between a plurality of user devices, wherein the plurality of user devices comprises a first user device and a second user device, and wherein the first user device is associated with a first call parameter and a first codec preference and the second user device is associated with a second call parameter and a second codec preference;
• selecting, subsequent to receiving the request, a base codec for the conference, based on the first call parameter, the first codec preference, the second call parameter, and the second codec preference, wherein the base codec is configured to encode and decode communications transmitted within the conference;
• and
• establishing the conference based on the base codec.
