Abstract
Methods and systems include receiving, at de-ringing circuitry of a display pipeline of an electronic device, scaled image content based on image data. The de-ringing circuitry also receives a fallback scaler output. The de-ringing circuitry determines whether the image data has a change frequency greater than a threshold. In response to the change frequency being above the threshold, the de-ringing circuitry determines a weight. Based at least in part on the weight, the de-ringing circuitry blends the scaled image content and the fallback scaler output based at least in part on the weight.

De-ringing circuitry of an electronic device, comprising:
- an input configured to receive linear-scaled image content scaled from image data and alternatively scaled image content scaled from the image data;
- circuitry configured to:
- determine pixel differences in the image data;
- determine a weight for the linear-scaled image content based at least in part on the pixel differences;
- determine an additional weight for the alternatively scaled image content based at least in part on the pixel differences;
- and
- output de-ringed scaled image data based at least in part on the weight applied to the linear-scaled image content and the additional weight applied to the alternatively scaled image content.
A method for de-ringing image content, comprising:
- receiving, at de-ringing circuitry, linear-scaled image content scaled from image data;
- receiving, at the de-ringing circuitry, alternatively scaled image content scaled from the image data;
- determining, using the de-ringing circuitry, pixel differences in the image data;
- determining, using the de-ringing circuitry, a weight for the linear-scaled image content based at least in part on the pixel differences;
- determining, using the de-ringing circuitry, an additional weight for the alternatively scaled image content based at least in part on the pixel differences;
- and
- outputting, from the de-ringing circuitry, de-ringed scaled image data based at least in part on the weight applied to the linear-scaled image content and the additional weight applied to the alternatively scaled image content.
A display pipeline system of an electronic device, comprising:
- scaler circuitry configured to generate linear-scaled image content by scaling image data using a first scaling process and to generate alternatively scaled image content by scaling the image data using a second scaling process, wherein the first scaling process comprises linear scaling, and the second scaling process comprises non-linear scaling;
- and
- de-ringing circuitry comprising pixel difference circuitry, coupled to the scaler circuitry, and configured to:
- determine pixel differences in the image data;
- determine a weight for the linear-scaled image content based at least in part on the pixel differences;
- determine an additional weight for the alternatively scaled image content based at least in part on the pixel differences;
- blend the linear-scaled image content and the alternatively scaled image content to generate de-ringed scaled image data;
- and
- output the de-ringed scaled image data based at least in part on the weight applied to the linear-scaled image content and the additional weight applied to the alternatively scaled image content.
