Simplified schema generation for data ingestion

A system comprising:

• a computer processor;
• memory;
• and
• instructions stored in the memory and executable by the computer processor to cause the computer processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:
• receiving a dataset from a data source;
• calculating a first plurality of string similarities between metadata of the dataset with a plurality of attributes of a plurality of data classes in a target schema to determine a data class;
• assigning a set of relationships to the data class based on relationships between the plurality of data classes in the target schema;
• calculating a second plurality of string similarities between a plurality of attributes of the dataset and a plurality of attributes of the data class;
• assigning datatypes and measurement units to the plurality of attributes of the dataset according to the second plurality of string similarities;
• and
• generating a source schema based on the data class, the set of relationships, the plurality of attributes of the data class and the measurement units.

A computer program product comprising non-transitory computer-readable program code that, when executed by a computer processor of a computing system, causes the computing system to perform the method of:

• receiving a dataset from a data source;
• calculating a first plurality of string similarities between metadata of the dataset with a plurality of attributes of a plurality of data classes in a target schema to determine a data class;
• assigning a set of relationships to the data class based on relationships between the plurality of data classes in the target schema;
• calculating a second plurality of string similarities between a plurality of attributes of the dataset and a plurality of attributes of the data class;
• assigning datatypes and measurement units to the plurality of attributes of the dataset according to the second plurality of string similarities;
• and
• generating a source schema based on the data class, the set of relationships, the plurality of attributes of the data class and the measurement units.
