Abstract
Polymer composites including feldspar having improved processability and biodegradability without loss of strength or flexibility are described. The polymer composites can be moulded into disposable articles such as coffee capsules, cutlery, straws, drink stirrers, food trays, single-serve packaging, such as a cup, cap, container and/or lid, or any other single-use item.
Claims15
Polymer composite having an overall weight, comprising:
- biodegradable polymer in an amount of 1-98% by weight of the overall weight;
- micronized feldspar in an amount of at least 1% by weight of the overall weight;
- and
- starch and/or protein containing material in an amount of at least 1% by weight of the overall weight.

A process for preparing a polymer composite, comprising:
- combining a biodegradable polymer, micronized feldspar, and starch and/or protein containing material, forming a mixture;
- melting the mixture forming a molten mixture;
- forming the molten mixture into a desired product;
- and cooling the desired product.
