Abstract
A pressure wave is generated within a first well extending into a subterranean formation. A pressure response associated with the pressure wave is detected from a second well extending into the formation. Information is then determined, based on the pressure response in the second well, wherein the information is associated with at least one of the formation and a fracture connected to at least one of the first well and the second well.

A method comprising:
- performing a fracturing operation in a first well, wherein the fracturing operation generates a pressure wave within the first well extending into a subterranean formation;
- receiving a pressure response associated with the pressure wave in a second well extending into the subterranean formation;
- measuring one or more parameters of the pressure response, wherein the one or more parameters include a delay in an arrival time of the pressure wave at the second well, an amplitude of the pressure wave at the second well, or a period of the pressure wave at the second well, or a combination thereof;
- determining, based on the one or more measured parameters of the pressure response, information associated with at least one of:
- the subterranean formation, or
- a fracture connected to the first well, or the second well, or both;
- and
- generating, based on the determined information, an indication of fracture geometry associated with at least one of:
- the subterranean formation, or
- the fracture connected to the first well, or the second well, or both.
An apparatus comprising:
- a processing system that includes a processor and a memory, including machine-readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations, comprising:
- receiving, from a first well extending into a subterranean formation, a pressure response associated with a pressure wave that was generated in a second well extending into the subterranean formation;
- measuring one or more parameters of the pressure response, wherein the one or more parameters include a delay in an arrival time of the pressure wave at the first well, an amplitude of the pressure wave at the first well, or a period of the pressure wave at the first well, or a combination thereof;
- determining, based on the one or more measured parameters of the pressure response, information associated with at least one of:
- the subterranean formation, or
- a fracture connected to the first well, or the second well, or both;
- and
- generating, based on the determined information, an indication of fracture geometry associated with at least one of:
- the subterranean formation, or
- the fracture connected to the first well, or the second well, or both.
A non-transitory, computer-readable medium, comprising machine-readable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations, comprising:
- receiving, from a first well extending into a subterranean formation, a pressure response associated with a pressure wave that was generated in a second well extending into the subterranean formation;
- measuring one or more parameters of the pressure response, wherein the one or more parameters include a delay in an arrival time of the pressure wave at the first well, an amplitude of the pressure wave at the first well, or a period of the pressure wave at the first well, or a combination thereof;
- determining, based on the one or more measured parameters of the pressure response, information associated with at least one of:
- the subterranean formation, or
- a fracture connected to the first well, or the second well, or both;
- and
- generating, based on the determined information, an indication of fracture geometry associated with at least one of:
- the subterranean formation, or
- the fracture connected to the first well, or the second well, or both.
