Abstract
A windshield wiper includes a support structure, a scrubbing wiper assembly, and a motor. The scrubbing wiper assembly is slidably attached to the support structure and has a central longitudinal axis extending in the elongate direction between a first end and a spaced apart second end. The scrubbing wiper assembly includes a slider element and a wiper blade rigidly secured to the slider element. The motor is mounted to the support structure and is engaged with the slider element to reciprocally move the scrubbing wiper blade along the central longitudinal axis. The reciprocation can impart a linear torque to the slider element. Methods of cleaning and polishing a windshield using a windshield wiper are also included.
Claims20
A windshield wiper comprising:
- a support structure comprising a connector that is configured to receive an end of a standard wiper arm of a vehicle;
- a single scrubbing wiper assembly slidably attached to the support structure, the single scrubbing wiper assembly having a central longitudinal axis extending in an elongate direction between a first end and a spaced apart second end, the single scrubbing wiper assembly comprising:
- a slider element;
- a single wiper blade rigidly secured to the slider element, the single wiper blade comprising a thin rubber squeegee;
- a motor mounted to the support structure, the motor engaged with the slider element via a converter having a tab extending upward from the slider element, and
- an actuator that is electrically connected to the motor and is configured to actuate the motor in response to an activation of spraying a fluid onto the windshield,
- wherein, when the motor is activated by the actuator, the motor and converter are configured to:
- reciprocally move the single scrubbing wiper assembly along the central longitudinal axis;
- and
- impart a linear torque to the slider element, the linear torque being orthogonal to the central longitudinal axis and causing at least a portion of the single wiper blade to reciprocate away from the windshield, and
- wherein, the windshield wiper has only the single scrubbing wiper assembly that has only the single wiper blade, and the windshield wiper does not include any additional wiper assembly or any additional wiper blade.
A method of cleaning a windshield, the method comprising:
- moving a windshield wiper laterally across the windshield of a vehicle, the windshield wiper comprising a single scrubbing wiper assembly and a motor, the single scrubbing wiper assembly slidably attached to a windshield wiper support structure, the single scrubbing wiper assembly comprising a single wiper blade attached to a slider element, wherein the windshield wiper has only the single scrubbing wiper assembly that has only the single wiper blade, and the windshield wiper does not include any additional wiper assembly or any additional wiper blade, the single wiper blade comprising a thin rubber squeegee;
- spraying a fluid onto the windshield;
- in response to an activation of spraying the fluid onto the windshield,
- actuating the motor by an actuator, the actuator being electrically connected to the motor and configured to actuate the motor in response to the activation of spraying the fluid, the motor engaging the slider element via a tab extending upward from the slider element to
- cause the single scrubbing wiper assembly to reciprocate along a longitudinal axis of the slider element as the windshield wiper moves laterally across the windshield;
- and
- cause the single scrubbing wiper assembly to reciprocate orthogonally to the longitudinal axis of the slider element so that the slider element and wiper blade ripple, allowing the fluid to pass between the single wiper blade and the windshield as the single wiper blade moves across the windshield.
A method of removing a scratch in a windshield of a vehicle, the method comprising:
- spraying a fluid onto a top surface of the windshield;
- in response to spraying the fluid,
- actuating a motor that is coupled to a single windshield wiper via an actuator, the actuator being electrically connected to the motor and configured to actuate the motor in response to an activation of the spraying the fluid;
- moving the windshield wiper laterally across the windshield, the windshield wiper comprising a single wiper blade comprising a thin rubber squeegee, wherein the windshield wiper does not include any additional wiper blade, nor is the windshield wiper coupled to any additional windshield wiper, the fluid remaining on the windshield as the single wiper blade moves across the windshield so that the fluid traps dust particles from the atmosphere and forms a polishing compound, and the movement of the single wiper blade across the windshield causes the formed polishing compound to fill the scratch on the windshield;
- and
- reciprocating the single wiper blade by the motor after the formed polishing compound has filled the scratch, so as to grind down the polishing compound within the scratch each time the single wiper blade passes over the scratch, until the polishing compound is ground down to the level of the top surface of the windshield.
