Abstract
A composition for forming a polyurethane foam is provided using polyol having a total unsaturation less than 0.04 meq/g, methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), and epoxidized soybean oil. The epoxidized soybean oil may comprise greater than about 5% by weight of the composition. A method for forming polyurethane foam using the aforementioned composition is also provided.
Claims20
A composition for forming a polyurethane foam, the composition comprising:
- polyol having a total unsaturation less than 0.04 meq/g;
- methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI);
- and
- epoxidized soybean oil, wherein the epoxidized soybean oil comprises greater than about 5% by weight of the composition.
A method for forming polyurethane foams in a molding apparatus, the method comprising:
- directing a polyol composition into a mold, the polyol composition including a mixture of a polyol having a total unsaturation less than 0.04 meq/g, epoxidized soybean oil, a blowing agent and a catalyst;
- and
- directing an isocyanate composition into the mold to form a foamed polyurethane.
A molded component comprising the reaction product of a composition comprising:
- polyol having a total unsaturation less than 0.04 meq/g;
- methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI);
- and
- epoxidized soybean oil, wherein the epoxidized soybean oil comprises greater than about 5% by weight of the composition.
