Abstract
A vehicle may include a frame structure, a body mounted to the frame structure, and a vehicle navigation system. The vehicle navigation system may include a navigation sensor mounted to the frame structure, and a processor in communication with the navigation sensor. The navigation sensor may be configured to detect reference elements disposed in or on a road on which the vehicle travels. The processor may be configured to receive, from the navigation sensor, signals indicative of a sequence or pattern of detected reference elements. The processor may also be configured to determine, using the received signals, at least one of a position, velocity, or orientation of the vehicle on the road.
Claims12
A vehicle, comprising:
- a frame structure;
- a body mounted to the frame structure;
- and
- a vehicle navigation system, comprising:
- a navigation sensor mounted to the frame structure;
- and
- a processor in communication with the navigation sensor;
- wherein:
- the navigation sensor is configured to detect reference elements disposed in or on a road on which the vehicle travels;
- the processor is configured to receive, from the navigation sensor, signals indicative of a sequence or pattern of detected reference elements;
- and
- the processor is configured to determine, using the received signals, at least one of a position, velocity, or orientation of the vehicle on the road.
A method of navigating a road by a vehicle, comprising:
- detecting, by the vehicle, a sequence or pattern of reference elements disposed in or on a road over which the vehicle travels;
- determining, from the sequence or pattern of reference elements, at least one of a position, velocity, or orientation of the vehicle on the road;
- and
- providing at least one of a steering correction to a steering system of the vehicle, or a speed correction to a drive system or brake system of the vehicle, in response to the determined position, velocity, and/or orientation of the vehicle on the road.
A road, comprising:
- a composite material including concrete or asphalt;
- and
- a set of magnetic markers disposed in or on the composite material.
