Polymeric composition for use in electroless plating, method of elecroless plating, and polymeric article made by electroless plating

An article comprising a composition composing

• 9 to 29 weight percent of a first graft rubber copolymer having a backbone, the backbone comprising at least one conjugated diene monomer in polymerized form, and, grafted to the backbone, a polymerized form of at least one monomer selected from monovinyl aromatic monomers, acrylic monomers, and combinations thereof,
• 70-90 weight percent of ungrafted styrenic polymer,
• 0.1 to 10 weight percent of a core/shell diene-based rubber having particle size of 100 to 500 nm,
• one or more of a stabilizer and/or antioxidant in total amount of 0.1 to 5 weight percent,
• fatty acid or salt of fatty acid in an amount of 0.1 to 2 weight percent,
• 0 to 5 weight percent of a mold release agent,
• 0 to 1 weight percent of a metal oxide,
• 0 to 3 weight percent of a lubricant,
• 0 to 20 weight percent of a polycarbonate wherein weight percent and ppm are based on total weight of the composition wherein the composition is in the form of a shape having a surface and has a metal coating is electroless plated on a portion of the surface.

A method for making comprising providing a composition comprising 9 to 29 weight percent of a first graft rubber copolymer having a backbone, the backbone comprising at least one conjugated diene monomer in polymerized form, and, grafted to the backbone, a polymerized form of at least one monomer selected from monovinyl aromatic monomers, acrylic monomers, and combinations thereof,

• 70-90 weight percent of ungrafted styrenic polymer,
• 0.1 to 10 weight percent of a core/shell diene-based rubber having particle size of 100 to 500 nm,
• one or more of a stabilizer and/or antioxidant in total amount of 0.1 to 5 weight percent,
• fatty acid or salt of fatty acid in an amount of 0.1 to 2 weight percent,
• 0 to 5 weight percent of a mold release agent,
• 0 to 1 weight percent of a metal oxide,
• 0 to 3 weight percent of a lubricant,
• 0 to 20 weight percent of a polycarbonate
• forming the composition into a shape, etching the shape with an oxidizing acid and electroless plating one or more metals onto a portion of the formed and etched composition.
