Abstract
An energy storage device for a bicycle includes a housing, a plurality of battery cells, a battery management system, and a charge controller disposed in the housing, a battery contact connection and a charge port, separate and spaced apart from the battery contact connection. The charge port may include a DC charge port and a USB C charge port. A bicycle including an energy storage device, and a method of charging an energy storage device are also provided.

An energy storage device for a bicycle comprising:
- a housing comprising a mounting arrangement adapted for mounting to the bicycle;
- a plurality of battery cells disposed in the housing;
- a battery management system disposed in the housing and connected to the plurality of battery cells, wherein the battery management system is configured to monitor a voltage of the plurality of battery cells;
- a charge controller disposed in the housing and communicating with the battery management system, wherein the charge controller is connected to the plurality of cells and is configured to modulate a current supplied to the plurality of cells;
- and
- a charge port mounted on the housing and configured for electrical connection to a bicycle drive unit.
