Position Sensing Modules and Related Devices and Methods

A meter for measuring an amount of service provided to a customer, the meter comprising a position sensing module configured to:

• determine a position of one or more switch poles associated with one or more line phases of a device over a predetermined time period, the one or more switch poles being configured to connect service to or disconnect service from a customer, the one or more switch poles defining, for each line phase, a line side and a load side, the position of the one or more switch poles being determined by measuring a current across the one or more switch poles:
• if a current greater than or equal to a predetermined current threshold is detected, the position is closed, or
• if a current less than the predetermined current threshold is detected, the position is open;
• determine a line voltage for the one or more line phases of the device with respect to a first reference value over the predetermined time period;
• determine a load voltage for the one or more line phases of the device with respect to the first reference value over the predetermined time period;
• compare the line voltage to the load voltage to determine if the line voltage and the load voltage are within a predetermined threshold for the one or more line phases;
• and
• confirm the position of the one or more switch poles associated with the one or more line phases of the device based on the comparison of the line voltage to the load voltage for the one or more line phases.

A position sensing module associated with a device, the position sensing and verification module configured to:

• determine a position of one or more switch poles associated with one or more line phases of a device over a predetermined time period, the one or more switch poles being configured to connect service to or disconnect service from a customer, the one or more switch poles defining, for each line phase, a line side and a load side, the position of the one or more switch poles being determined by measuring a current across the one or more switch poles:
• if a current greater than or equal to a predetermined current threshold is detected, the position is closed, or
• if a current less than the predetermined current threshold is detected, the position is open;
• determine a line voltage for the one or more line phases of the device with respect to a first reference value over the predetermined time period;
• determine a load voltage for the one or more line phases of the device with respect to the first reference value over the predetermined time period;
• compare the line voltage to the load voltage to determine if the line voltage and the load voltage are within a predetermined threshold for the one or more line phases;
• and
• detect a fault state of the device based on the determined position of the one or more switch poles and the comparison of the line voltage to the load voltage.
