A polymeric container including a finish defining an opening of the container. A body defines an internal volume for storing product therein. A base is at an end of the body opposite to the finish. The base defines a plurality of recesses spaced apart from one another about an axial center of the base.

- a finish defining an opening of the container;
- a body defining an internal volume for storing product therein;
- and
- a base at an end of the body opposite to the finish, the base defining a plurality of recesses spaced apart from one another about an axial center of the base.

A mold assembly for forming a polymeric container including a base defining a plurality of recesses spaced apart from one another about an axial center of the base, the mold assembly comprising:
- a mold base for forming the base of the container;
- and
- a plurality of protrusions spaced apart about an axial center of the mold base and movable between a retracted position and an extended position;
- wherein in the extended position the plurality of protrusions stretch the base to define the plurality of recesses.
