Transmit power control for positioning using non-serving cells

A method for wireless communications at a user equipment (UE), comprising:

• determining that a reference signal is associated with a positioning procedure to identify a geographic location of the UE;
• determining, based at least in part on determining that the reference signal is associated with the positioning procedure, an absence of a first parameter associated with a transmit power for transmitting the reference signal;
• establishing a connection with a serving cell;
• receiving a message from a cell other than the serving cell;
• based at least in part on the determined absence of the first parameter, determining a first value of the first parameter based at least in part on the message from the cell other than the serving cell;
• determining the transmit power based at least in part on the first value of the first parameter;
• and
• transmitting, during the positioning procedure, the reference signal according to the transmit power.

An apparatus for wireless communications at a user equipment (UE), comprising:

• means for determining that a reference signal is associated with a positioning procedure to identify a geographic location of the UE;
• means for determining, based at least in part on determining that the reference signal is associated with the positioning procedure, an absence of a first parameter associated with a transmit power for transmitting the reference signal;
• means for establishing a connection with a serving cell;
• means for receiving a message from a cell other than the serving cell;
• means for, based at least in part on the determined absence of the first parameter, determining a first value of the first parameter based at least in part on the message from the cell other than the serving cell;
• means for determining the transmit power based at least in part on the first value of the first parameter;
• and
• mean for transmitting, during the positioning procedure, the reference signal according to the transmit power.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing code for wireless communications at a user equipment (UE), the code comprising instructions executable by a processor to:

• determine that a reference signal is associated with a positioning procedure to identify a geographic location of the UE;
• determine, based at least in part on determining that the reference signal is associated with the positioning procedure, an absence of a first parameter associated with a transmit power for transmitting the reference signal;
• establish a connection with a serving cell;
• receive a message from a cell other than the serving cell;
• based at least in part on the determined absence of the first parameter, determine a first value of the first parameter based at least in part on the message from the cell other than the serving cell;
• determine the transmit power based at least in part on the first value of the first parameter;
• and
• transmit, during the positioning procedure, the reference signal according to the transmit power.
