Systems and methods for providing recording of a blacked-out media content item

A method comprising:

• receiving, from a first device associated with a user profile, a request to access a content item via the first device;
• determining that the content item is subject to a blackout in a blackout region during a blackout period;
• determining that the first device is outside of the blackout region, wherein the request was received during the blackout period;
• and
• in response to the determining that the first device is outside of the blackout region:
• causing recording of the content item during the blackout period;
• and
• transmitting, via a communication network, the recorded content item to the first device after expiration of the blackout period.

A system comprising:

• input/output (I/O) circuitry configured to receive, from a first device associated with a user profile, a request to access a content item via the first device;
• processing circuitry communicably coupled to the I/O circuitry and configured:
• to determine that the content item is subject to a blackout in a blackout region during a blackout period;
• to determine that the first device is outside of the blackout region, wherein the request was received during the blackout period;
• and
• in response to determining that the first device is outside the blackout region:
• to cause recording of the content item during the blackout period;
• and
• to cause transmitting, via a communication network, the recorded content item to the first device after expiration of the blackout period.

A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed by a processor, are configured to cause control circuitry:

• to receive, from a first device associated with a user profile, a request to access a content item via the first device;
• to determine that the content item is subject to a blackout in a blackout region during a blackout period;
• to determine that the first device is outside of the blackout region, wherein the request was received during the blackout period;
• and
• in response to determining that the first device is outside the blackout region:
• to cause recording of the content item during the blackout period;
• and
• to cause transmitting, via a communication network, the recorded content item to the first device after expiration of the blackout period.
