Abstract
A CPT probe (200) having a cone tip (252) can be inserted into one or more soil layers (110, 112, 114) by a hammer action. The CPT probe (200) has a casing (214) with an internal hammer blow mechanism (225) inside said casing (214) which applies a hammering force on said cone tip (252). The internal hammer blow mechanism is driven by a motor unit (118) which is located either inside the casing (214) or external to the casing (214).

A Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT) probe comprising:
- a cone tip configured to be inserted into at least one soil layer by a hammer action;
- and
- a casing containing an internal hammer blow mechanism inside the casing and configured to apply a hammering force on the cone tip.

A method of inserting a cone probe into soil, the method comprising:
- providing a Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT) probe with a cone tip, the CPT probe comprising a casing containing an internal hammer blow mechanism inside the casing;
- and
- activating a motor unit arranged either inside the CPT probe or external to the CPT probe and connected to the internal hammer blow mechanism, and configured to generate a hammering force with the internal hammer blow mechanism on the cone tip.
