A method for determining the EML4-ALK gene fusion variant status in a subject comprising:
- (a) obtaining a biological sample from a subject suspected of having or having a neoplastic disorder;
- (b) extracting nucleic acids form the biological sample to generate an isolated nucleic acid sample:
- (c) amplifying nucleic acids in the isolated nucleic acid sample using oligonucleotide primers that bind to exons 1-22 of EML4 and exon 20 of ALK;
- and
- (d) detecting the presence or absence of a EML4-ALK gene fusion variant in the amplified nucleic acids.
